Dearest Sister~
I am most distraught that it has been so long since we last spoke. My days have been so full that at times I need to remember to breathe. I have not been in touch with much of anyone actually. Doc has made Father comfortable and Mother is doing well tending to him for now.
Where shall I begin? I am short of paper and ink, so I must make this rather quick. The Norlands event is off to a wonderful start. The planning committee really has it together and you would think some of us have done something on this level before. www.norlands.org I am most certain there will be a lot of news to share at the next meeting(March 29th), I do hope everyone can come. There is a lot of details that are much easier to discuss than write. And we are in NEED of any civilians available to help coordinate and share their talents. Wait until you meet the other ladies from What Remains, they are most delightful.
I spent last Monday in Augusta. There was a hearing for a commission to preserve the monuments at Gettysburg honoring our dear ones who fought and fell or walked on to another battle. Donned in my Widow Weeds, I was joined by Pvt Richards, Sr as well as our dear British emissary Mr. Tatlock. The board that was listening to us was most attentive...even when I, a woman, had the floor! How grand an opportunity for a lady. It appears to have gone well. I am to return for the work session as well. I take this as a good sign.
(yes, James I stoked up tending ALL Maine monuments everywhere as did James Brown of the SUV.)
I also spent a few moments with the Secretary of State discussing the state Committee/Commission being formed to Commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Gettysburg. Can you imagine? The motion has moved to the governor's office for proclamation (or whatever he needs to do). I then sat for quite a while with the State Archivist. Wheels are turning while looking ahead to the year 2013. Planning such an event this far in advance may seem a bit early, but when you hear all we are planning(so far), you will understand why. A LOT of information will be presented at the next meeting(March 29th). Again, I do hope that everyone will be able to attend. I would be heartsick if anyone missed the information. How wonderful that future generations will always hold our men in such esteem. I will be speaking with them in Augusta again on Monday and will no doubts have even more information to share. I am certain you all understand the significance of the 20th ME in the planning and implementing of this nearly 4 year commemoration. ANY and ALL suggestions will be entertained as well as anyone wishing to participate in the planning, etc. If you have any suggestions or are interested in participating on any sub-committees, please let me know. There is an overwhelming amount of work needing to be accomplished and we can use all of your talents.
Please, please, please if at all possible come to the meeting. I'd love to meet those of you with whom I have not had the pleasure.
Oh, my. I am running out of ink. I shall post this and continue as soon as I am able.
Your loving Sister,
Christabell
