Dear Friends:
The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Theophilus West, MD, Camp 1346, Marianna, Florida will be conducting a ceremony to honoring Allen H. Bush (1809-September 27, 1878), at the St. Luke's Episcopal Church graveyard, in Marianna, Florida. He was a participant in the Battle of Marianna, was captured and imprisoned in Elmira, N.Y. POW Prison, released after the War, returned to Marianna, was an attorney, a Judge, and he wrote The Florida Law during the Reconstruction Period. The event will occur in the morning of the anniversary date of the Battle of Marianna and the anniversary date of the death of Allen H. Bush.
An honor guard and 21 gun salute is planned at the cemetery to honor the placement of a new Confederate headstone for Allen H. Bush.
An honor guard and 21 gun salute is also planned afterwards at the Confederate Monument in downtown Marianna in the Confederate Park on Lafayette Street.
I am requesting all able bodied re-enactors with muskets, uniforms, and powder to join me in full uniform for the honor guard ceremonies. I need seven fully equipped men for the honor guard at the cemetery and at the Confederate Monument. Alternatively, I am willing to organize two or more separate honor guards for the two locations.
I am also working on having a school of the soldier for infantry and artillery and possibly cavalry at a site yet to be determined in Marianna for the same weekend. How many of you would be interested in a school of the soldier in Marianna, for September 26, 27, & 28, 2008? Please respond and give me a head count. I have two different sites in mind at this time and the head count will make a difference in where we settle down for the weekend.
Please advise of your availability at your earliest convenience.
Confederately,
Stan
